The TruTouch 1100 was featured in an article, “Alcohol monitor ‘next best thing to blood tests,’” appearing in The Times-Tribune in Scranton PA. The non-invasive alcohol screening device was identified as the “next best thing” for applications in the Lackawanna County’s Probation and Parole Department. Rick Horan, Director of the County’s Work Release Center, said, “We see it mostly as a deterrence factor, as they know when they come back they’ll be tested. The breath tests were random.  The TruTouch is quicker and needs less supervision.”

TruTouch announces the appointment of Stan Rockovich as Senior Sales Manager for the Mid-Atlantic Region. Stan brings extensive experience in the community corrections market where he was a sales manager for Kroll Laboratories, laboratory-based drug and alcohol testing. Prior to Kroll, Stan spent the majority of his career in the probation field and when he retired he was the Director of Probation for Washington County in PA.

The New Mexico Business Weekly covered TruTouch's participation in a DWI roadblock conducted by the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department highlighting the ease-of-use and speed advantages of the non-invasive alcohol measurement technology. "Our officers were pretty shocked at how simple and accurate the device was," said Sergeant Angel Torres of the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department. "Everybody wants to know how soon we can get it out in the field." Bernalillo County Sheriff Darren White says once the technology gets the necessary federal and state approvals to be used in DWI courts, he's positive it will be deployed statewide. "I believe this product has the potential to revolutionize the way DWI investigations are conducted in this country," White said.

An article in Le Monde, “A wheel which measures the alcohol content of the driver,” featured TruTouch Technologies’ optical technique for measuring alcohol non-invasively through the skin. Excessive alcohol consumption was responsible for approximately 30% of 5,318 deaths due to the road accidents in France in 2005. “The TruTouch system may eliminate this scourge in the future.”

TruTouch participated in a panel discussion on Larry Mantle’s “LA Air Talk” show produced by National Public Radio’s KPCC. The panel examined the costs and impacts due to drunk driving, and discussed new emerging technologies, including TruTouch’s non-invasive alcohol test method, that may contribute to reducing the death toll due to drunken driving.

TruTouch participated on two panels at the International Technology Symposium: A Nation Without Drunk Driving sponsored by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). "I am honored that MADD chose New Mexico to host this conference. New Mexico has a long association with technology, from our National Laboratories to cutting-edge new firms such as TruTouch Technologies, which has developed and demonstrated noninvasive alcohol testing systems," said Governor Bill Richardson in the opening remarks to the Symposium participants. Participants comprised a broad cross section of those interested in putting an end to drunk driving including researchers, judges, law enforcement professionals, state legislators, representatives of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and representatives from all of the major automobile manufacturers. Susan A. Ferguson, Ph.D., senior vice president, research for the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, who chaired a session on Technology Development Challenges said, "Looking to the future, we want to develop technologies that will make the job of detecting these drivers much easier, and step in to prevent them from driving when over the legal limit." Chuck Hurley CEO of MADD summed it up by saying, "Emerging technology is one of the most promising and potentially effective approaches to eliminate drunk driving in this country."

Continuing its support to the local community, TruTouch sponsored a local high school student from Albuquerque Academy as an intern. The student investigated the advantages to reducing overall liability costs that are faced by employers due to alcohol-related incidents in the workplace. He evaluated and gained preliminary information on the cost-savings potential that might be realized through the use of wide-spread, rapid noninvasive alcohol screening as a proactive solution to eliminating alcohol-related incidents in safety-sensitive industries.

The local ABC affiliate, KOAT, showcased the latest developments at TruTouch Technologies during its evening TV news program as TruTouch develops its first non-invasive alcohol testing product. The noninvasive product eliminates the need for any bodily fluids for testing, and the simple, touch-based approach to accurately measuring an individuals' alcohol concentration were highlighted in the report.

TruTouch was recognized today by the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce for innovation, excellence, and contributions to the workplace and the community. Gerald L. Shaheen, Vice Chairman of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and Group President of Caterpillar Inc., Greg Winegardner, President, Wells Fargo Bank, Albuquerque, and Terri Cole, President and CEO, Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce, presented TruTouch with the Innovate Albuquerque Entrepreneur Awards acknowledging its innovative approach to product development.

Lt. Governor Diane Denish gave the opening remarks at the awards breakfast followed by the keynote speaker, Mr. Shaheen. Mr. Shaheen also chairs the Chamber's Transportation Infrastructure and Logistics Committee and serves on the board of directors of the National Chamber Foundation, the Chamber's public policy think tank. The award celebrates the entrepreneurial spirit at TruTouch and recognizes its position as Albuquerque trailblazers.

TruTouch hosted Mr. Chuck Hurley, CEO of MADD, where Mr. Hurley announced that MADD will host an International Technology Summit on anti-drunk driving technology in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 2006. He was joined by distinguished guests: the Honorable Heather Wilson (NM-1), Mayor M. Chavez, Sheriff D. White (Bernalillo County), Chief of Police R. Schultz (Albuquerque), Rachel O'Connor (Governor Richardson's Public Safety representative), and Terry Huertaz (Executive Director, MADD New Mexico).

"Emerging technology is one of the most promising and potentially effective approaches to eliminate drunk driving in this country," said Chuck Hurley. "These technologies may soon help us separate drunk drivers from their weapon--a vehicle."

As part of its continued support to the local community, TruTouch sponsored graduate students from the University of New Mexico's Anderson School of Business. The students conducted market research and prepared a preliminary report on the potential of the TruTouch noninvasive alcohol products in industrial applications. The students worked under the supervision of Professor Sul Kassicieh.
